Wheat Germ

Jan 28

When I was asked to try out Kretschmer Wheat Germ, I jumped at the chance to try something new. It also lines us with my resolution to eat healthier! Before some arrived on my doorstep, I really did not know what wheat germ was– I had heard of it before, but did not know much about it.  There are tons of health benefits, and it’s tasty too!

I haven’t been too adventurous with what I have put wheat germ on yet, but it’s been my staple for breakfast recently. My breakfast of choice is fruit on the bottom Greek yogurt with a heaping teaspoon of wheat germ mixed it.  The wheat germ has a delicious nutty flavor to it– seriously delicious.

Sadie from Frosting and Filigree says that she puts wheat germ in everything. Her tried and true breakfast or snack is sliced strawberries, almond milk, and wheat germ. I can’t wait to try this!

Do you use wheat germ? If so, what do you put it on?

Yea! So glad you enjoyed it. I avoided it for a long time even though i grew up with my dad putting it on his cereal and stuff since I was a kid. I add it to smoothies, yogurt like you, slip it into all your baking, even pancakes, oatmeal etc. Enjoy! :)

It’s great sprinkled on almost anything – macaroni and cheese, fresh green salads… the list is endless. Treat it like you would grated parmesan cheese and you will be amazed at what it tastes great on.

My dad loves wheat germ (he puts it in his bowl of berries and cereal each morning!) We’d both love it!

I LOVE Wheat Germ!!!! I love slicing up some strawberries dusting them with wheat germ and adding some almond milk. It’s basically like eating strawberries like cereal. The wheat germ adds such a great nutty flavor. I also love topping my protein shakes with wheat germ plus I have some oatmeal cookies recipes that call for it!

I try to sneak wheat germ in whenever I remember to. It’s especially good in baked treats like granola and graham crackers (http://homegrownandhealthy.com/granola/)

  11. When I was a swimmer, my dad would have me sprinkle it on my cereal so I would have more energy on swim meet days. What a memory! I have some in my freezer to add to breads, It does have a great flavor. I had forgotten about it for years!
