A Day of Cooking Failures…

We all have them right? Recipes that we completely destroy and have no reason why? I know I have that happen.

Last Sunday, I had an entire day of cooking failures. Yes, and entire day!

First up was dessert and next was dinner.

For dessert I wanted to make fudge– I even had a recipe that said “fool proof.” I guess I’m a fool 😉


If you have ever made fudge or candy before, you might look at the picture above and see what I did wrong. I used a regular meat thermometer instead of a candy thermometer. So I was actually measuring the temperature of the pot instead of the fudge ingredients inside the pot.

So it came out like this and this:

A little liquidy instead of a solid. It actually would have made a nice mousse. I even tried to freeze it, but it stayed as a goo instead of a solid. I was so frustrated– I just threw the whole thing out. A big waste of marshmallow fluff…it is what it is.

Then, I made a slow cooker meal in my brand-new crock pot. And it burned. With tons and tons of liquid in the crock pot. I have no idea what happened, except for the crock pot being defective. That’s it– it was the crock pot’s fault :)

Austin was a good sport and even ate half– I could only eat a bite. Also trash worthy!

I want to give these recipes another go– with the proper equipment– a candy thermometer and a crock pot that works.

    Sorry—-But you did make me laugh in empathy. In the end you will be glad that all the failures happened in one day. NOW it’s over already!
